i am such a Sylus fan
#1

posed this on tumblr but then thought i should immortalize it here as well

i was thinking about it this morning as I considered organizing my screenshots for another webpage update and:

the reason I like Sylus so much is that there's always (always) the trembling potential for violence.

a lot of side cards are fluffy sweetness, sure, but main story Sylus (and this latest idol card also brings it to the fore) deals with his problems by painting nearby objects in blood spatter. if he can't buy it, play with it or step over it, he just erases it.
it's neck and neck for me sometimes with Caleb and Sylus but at the moment Sylus is on top because his amorality (when he's allowed to display it) is incredibly attractive to me.

best part is, he wants you with him. he's all in or he's all out. Sylus is not looking for forgiveness, doesn't even understand the word. he's not looking for you to look past his flaws or excuse his actions or knuckle under the pressure he exerts. He's not looking for a girlfriend or wife; he's looking for you to dig your fingers into his throat and give him a worthy necklace of bruises.

Sylus isn't going to deck you in jewels because he wants to buy you. he's going to deck you in jewels he ripped wholesale from someone else and that are still dripping - and he wants you to lick them clean.

okay, check this out (i figured i'd stick it here instead of making this its own little post)

Sylus almost always has the chain motif going on - finally got the dance number in his card to not stutter-frame its way through the whole thing so I'm busy grabbing screenshots and:

that's a lovely little detai. me likes. me likes a LOT.

Omg yes so well said!
I really like how his past two cards (Improvised Flow and Nightglow) focus more on the bloodier side of him. We've become way too used to his fluffy "let her tie my hair in cute ponytails" side, to the point where you might mistake his activities in the N109 Zone as something born out of strict necessity. This man finds death fun. He dropped on Earth during one of the worst calamities humanity remembers, and he grabbed popcorn. He is both the soft, romantic lover, and the amoral killer eating his victims.
If anything, what I appreciate so much about the way he's written is that it would be so easy to turn him into a one-dimensional toxic tiktok romantasy male lead. He's got the looks and the job for it, after all. And yet, his personality is so well-rounded that it contains multitudes. You can reduce him to just one trait, sure, but you'll constantly get slapped by all the others coming up unannounced.

unlike Caleb, Sylus is neither ashamed nor afraid of who he is, which i think is maybe the distilled selling point. he inhabits himself fully, no matter what is going on. he can be kind, because he's a kind man and he can kill in the blink of an eye because kindness has no place on a battlefield. he makes no apology for himself; he just... is.

the man gets nettled because i'm better than he is at claw machine games and he lets me put dinosaur bandaids on his boo boos and he also dresses me in red velvet and diamonds and the latest high tech gun because he wants to incite some mayhem in his evenings. i mean, what's not to love?
