I really appreciate your leap of faith with the crowfish story! I would have completely understood if you'd skipped it because it's not your cup of tea. I zeroed in on them as soon as I learned their lore (so like, 4 days after starting the game lol) because my fic writer mind was just buzzing with the potential conflict of their dynamic. It was just too good to pass.

I think I added Siren's call and Takedown shortly after posting the message, just enough to confirm that I could confidently add those titles as well.

we're starting to get into recent fics (having trawled all the old ones) so you've probably already read this, but i'm posting it anyways because I just got to it last night and i am having feels. this is an alternate ending to Decoherence.

I'm also curious how you're dealing with possible spoilers in fics since you've been so joyfully (and rightfully!) reading them without necessarily having cleared the canon content they reference. Are you picking up on info and putting it aside to be explained better in the main story? Are you blissfully oblivious to what is headcanon and what is canon?

i am split-minding this. its unfortunate but a number of things are spoiled simply because i watched for 20 seconds too long on a reaction trailer vid and the reaction person just spouted off something i really didn't want to know. so i tuck that tidbit deep into a box and pretend i have no idea i know it.

and considering my memory ain't great and i am in fact inhaling a bunch of stuff fairly quickly-ish, it does jumble in my head a bit so when i finally run across it properly, it's still a bit of a surprise and an "a-ha!' moment. it helps at this point too that i have the main thrust (geddit? thrust? ...i'll show myself out) of the master storyline and now we're just into the nitty gritties of WHY, and no fiction so far has actually given me anything close to a satisfactory answer because almost none of the fiction is talking about the master story; only personal explorations of the boys themselves.

does that make sense?

and straight up in the fiction, its actually really hard to tell what is canon being repurposed and what is just deeply entrenched fanon (some of which i wish would die or a fire or at least stop being so prominent), so that helps a ton.

also, i inhaled a lot of Caleb stuff in the first week or two without thinking about it because i was so desperate to know who the hell that was in the Fallen Cosmos trailer, so while i am not really *familiar* with his myth, i am less worried about it because i can't get my hands on his stories fast enough. i know that they go out in a blaze of nova at the end of the trailer, so somebody writing "they didn't go out in a blaze of nova, they wuz rescued" doesn't faze me at all!

did they take out an entire space armada with their powers synced together? who knows, but i viciously hope they did. only time will tell when i get there.

I am honestly dreading you getting spoilers of Death&Rebirth because that was a huge lore dump for us when it came out a while ago, and just yesterday I read a reddit post where the user went "I'm not tagging D&R as a spoiler anymore because we've all played it by now"
But I can't in good faith push you toward it without having read all the WU texts and watched Zayne's and Sylus' limited myth first.

thankfully i haven't heard a single thing about D&R from anywhere - either through avoidance (saw the title, kept moving) or just lucky with things coming up on my feed. helps that i'm not actually following that many meta lore people (like, none! other than you and you don't seem to post much about it on tumblr that i've seen) and just a few people that post fanart so my LaDS social feed is small and fairly well contained, and I've mostly given up on reddit.

well, it's not so much heavily-inserted fanon, i guess, now that i sit here and ruminate without any coffee to hand. just some of the tropes and random things that seems to have spread virally through the fiction - like Caleb always stealing/using MC's panties.  that is obviously not canon but it feels like a solid three quarters of the fiction for Caleb has that bedrock assumption that he does. i do not approve. 

i have a ton of OTHER pet peeves about the fiction but that drags a little too closely to making fun of other people's earnest efforts. but lord a'mercy, there are some very common phrases and words that just get overused and i just wish they would go away. the next time somebody uses the word "plush" to describe anything other than a small, stuffed toy, i will cut a bitch.

Good, because the lads fandom is notoriously bad with spoilers lol And my blog is not even lads-centered, if I end up posting about it it's because I couldn't stop myself (and I'd much rather talk about it here).

Panty-sniffer Caleb is one of those "everyone in the fandom agrees on it" trends that started so early on. I joined during his limited myth and it was already established, some fans talk about fics made with that trope all the way back to October. The infamous edit of his trailer just snowballed into a fandom-wide headcanon. To their defense, Caleb has a couple of things mentioned in his cards that really don't help his case and helped cement the idea that he's someone who could have happily spent his teenage years stealing his meimei's panties. 
I'm neutral toward the trend (beyond finding it funny, but that's because I'm not actively looking to avoid it), though I prefer those who characterize it in the opposite direction from "your virgin bro/childhood friend who doesn't even know where to put his hands because he's been waiting for you his whole life." Sweet, but not for me or the Caleb in my game.

you need to read everything this person has posted -- its only four fics, i guess thankfully because you may not have a ton of time to read, but I Am In Fan Love with how they write Sylus and Caleb. i swear to god they had the characters down so well, i read the dialogue like the VA's had been handed the scripts. absolutely bang on characterization.

all their stuff is very recent (in the last couple of months or so) and they posted one inspired by the beach banner that just came out, so they must write very quickly. i really hope they post more? i just had my birthday but maybe we'll get lucky anyways?

I'm going through your latest recs but I also had to add a whole neon sign pointing to this author right here because they write so so well and somehow manage to just nail the LI's inner and outer voice. Wrote mostly RafMC but I checked if they had a Caleb fic for you and yes they do and it's delicious!
