You could tell which story I was enjoying the most by the length of my record/commentary on it :P
When I originally got the flashback of Raf and MC meeting on the beach and pinky swearing to meet up the next year, I did assume that was in the current timeline, mostly because I was only just starting the story and what other reference did I have? But honestly, as things started to unfold that Raf had been around for a bajillion years, that didn't make sense anymore. So somewhere in my brain, I just moved that back into her childhood in God of Tides or something and then forgot to try to resolve any paradoxes that would probably cause.
I think option 1 is probably the most likely -- it's Gaia 2.0 going on here (brand new digs, brand new line of unethical inquiry), which is why Rafayel is an adult and MC is just around the corner. Slightly less likely but still probable is option 2) that the original beach flashback is from their actual and literal "first meeting" however many thousands of years ago that was and MC just didn't know it and was trying to work it into her non-memories of this current life.
We all get a little tripped up with Sylus, because to us, he's a darling, sweet, soft man who cooks us dinner, carries us to bed when we're sick, likes to dress us in fancy clothes and makes sure our ammunition is the best of the currently available tech. To the rest of the galaxy, he's a soulless monster who likes to play sick and powerful games because he can and wants to.
I was VERY intrigued with the crystal shattering. First, because that's so hot. Second, because that implies a degree of fine/delicate control that is downright frightening in its implications. Sure, he can explode a guy with his evol and often does but to get down to what has to be the cellular level and cause exquisite wreckage there? Phwoar. Third, does Sylus know what's going on / has encountered it before that he knows what to do to remove it? He deals in Protocores and actively hunts the best ones. He's got one of the more powerful ones embedded in his body! Has he solved the warping problem caused by Metaflux on organic life for himself and just doesn't care at all to share it? Soooo many questions.
