"A fish in your hand" could also refer to the smol blue fishie that Raf can summon, the emissaries of the sea.
The re-interpretation is always an ambiguous matter with infold writers because they do seem to pay attention to whatever hint and clues they've put out in the past, which allows for cards that came out months apart to reference each other. So I wouldn't put it past them to have that idea for the song since the very beginning, or them going "You know what would be really funny for the next myth" once they started plotting whatever will hit us in the face in 2 days.

oh, RIGHT. the blue fish! i played that scene where Rafayel tried to get us to care about him by going to the hospital, only that sort of backfired in both directions - awwwkward. my memory is hazy, but i believe he called it a promise of the sea or something similar. that would make a ton more sense than my spawning chinook idea.

The little fish also appears when you interact with him in the Cafè, going for the Gift option. And also in cards and events.

Yup you remember right, in Nightly Strolls Raf asks MC to swear that she won't disappear on him again (ouch after the myths), and he says:
"This is a ceremonial vow of my people. Fish are the emissaries of the ocean. If the vow has the blessing of the ocean, then a fish will appear between our palms."
