Unfortunately this time I actually mean many different nicknames. Then of course you always have to take into account the actual size of the fandom, so "many people" becomes a relative number really soon, but for the sake of convenience I'll quantify it by how spammed the tag becomes in X social media by different accounts. If I can't get a decent amount of variety because different accounts are all up in arms with silly topics, I'll say "a worryingly large chunk" lol

I spent a whole decade on tumblr, so I'm not necessarily against whisper-tagging, I find it fun even. The problem starts when people mistag just to reach a wider audience without thinking that said audience doesn't want to listen to you at all. But compared to other fandoms, lads has some trends that I don't find elsewhere and it's pretty interesting from a fandom-as-an-academical-subject point of view. For example on tumblr the fanfics aren't really written in the way fic writers usually write them: they're closer to how we would write bullet point headcanons instead, or a collection of ficlets/double drabbles at most. Which gives space to writing scenes for all LIs without being too much for the writer, it makes sense. But even graphically I see trends that I haven't found elsewhere: headers and animated dividers, color coded names, small fonts etc.
Tagging every lads related tag under the sun might just fall under common behavior that no one bats an eye at.
