whereas Xavier himself, born a prince and under that pressure to confirm to society's expectations from birth, broke out of it when confronted by what it would actually cost to keep the status quo. and he paid a pretty hefty price for it as he walks this unending path where he knows that even if he gets what (we presume) he wants, he may not end up the winner and she never comes back to him.
its interesting, in an overview kind of level. i kind of always assumed the girlfriend would forever pick her boyfriend over everything and anything else, but that is actually not the case, is it? and when she doesn't, it (so far at least) seems to lead to disaster. then again, it always leads to disaster.
