am i reading this right?

if i wanted to just outright buy Master of Fate (just work with me here) i'd need 22,500 red diamonds to guarantee it (150 pulls).

but the in-game shop only seems to sell blue crystals, that comes with a "rider" of x amount of red diamonds as well. the biggest blue crystal pack is $130 dollars and gives 6480 red diamonds, the $70 pack gives 3280. so i'd need to buy (3 x $130) + (1 x $70) = $460 in real money.

is that real math?

Anyway, yes if you don't count for luck you'd need 150 pulls to guarantee MOF companion.
You need to first secure 70 pulls so that you get the first of the two cards. Hopefully. You could still lose the 50/50 and get another unrelated 5 star (in which case you need 140 pulls to guarantee the first MOF, and then the crate at 150 pulls to guarantee the second MOF to unlock the companion).

Let's pretend we're trying to get to the first 70 pulls, let's start with the shop for this event:

- Snowfall pack I gives you 2 pulls
- Snowfall pack II gives you 18 pulls (you can buy it 3 times)
- Snowfall pack III gives you 50 pulls (you can buy it 5 times)

You could technically secure the first guaranteed 5 star by buying pack I, pack II (x3), pack III (x3 instead of x5)

At which point you'll know how lucky or unlucky you are. I can tell you how much this would cost me, but your shop is more expensive than mine. It would be 48.93 euros to me for the first 5 star.

BUT. You need to count for the red diamonds you can still farm from the game, which would give you 1 pull every 150 red diamonds. If you have Aurum pass you will get 1 pull per day just with the daily activities + the aurum. It's not much but it's also not the only thing you can do if you can grind orbits or abyssal chaos (it's the start of the week, the claw machine and kitty cards can also give you diamonds) and upgrade memories, you could realistically build up to another 150 diamonds per day. So let's pretend you also have 1-2 added pulls per day.

Let's also pretend I've been very unlucky and the 70th pull didn't give me the first MOF. Now I have to buy up to other 70 pulls to guarantee it.

- I can still buy 2 Snowfall pack III and it will give me 20 pulls
- Snowfall Pack IV gives me 36 pulls (x3)
- Snowfall Pack V gives me 20 pulls per purchase. I buy it once and I have 76 pulls total, which will guarantee the first MOF if I've been unlucky with the first 70 pulls. If I was lucky and got the first MOF in the first 70 pulls, I can now either get the second, rank1 the first (if I get it again), or get an unrelated 5star card.
All this will cost me 97.94 euros. You will have crossed the hundred dollars threshold most likely.

I am now 4 pulls away from the crate, since I did 70 pulls + 76 pulls. I can get roughly 2 free pulls per day between aurum pass + dailies + regular free diamond farming in the game, so I can get the ones I'm missing within the time frame of the event and get the companion by spending a max total of 146.87 euros if I'm the unluckiest person on earth. Which can happen.

If you're spending money my advice would be to buy 1 pack, go and pull one at a time until you exhaust your resources, then go and buy another pack, again pull one at a time etc. This will avoid wasting money by bulk buying when you might get the card sooner than you think.

I honestly haven't seen people using the purple diamonds shop unless they're whales or twitch streamers going for insane number of pulls in one go for a stream.

i cannot grind anything yet, i only just passed the 20th orbit on two of the guys and haven't even touched Abyssal Chaos so not a big option for me right now but we'll get there eventually i suppose.

i am out of time, i will re-look at the Snowfall Packs tonight and see what that works out to in my money!

okay, i re-did the new math this morning while i was sipping my coffee, using the Snowfall packs instead of the purple diamond conversion, and worst case scenario and 150 pulls, it still works out to $282 in my money (using no in-game diamonds, just sheer purchase power).

that is just shake-your-damned-head range. i was really hoping it was going to work out to something less egregious since i have no 5* cards for Zayne at all and it would have been nice to get a few in pocket (and the combat visuals are So Beautiful) but i will let this slide as unjustifiable. i've paid half that for a collector's box for an MMO.

I mean, stats say you get on average 1 limited card around 60 pulls (source this insane image from this insane guide) which checks out with my experience as well. Which means that yeah, in these events you have to be ready to cover for 150 pulls. You might as well skip this if it's out of budget and start hoarding diamonds so you can throw them in the next myth companion they'll throw at us. Plus it's pretty much a given that they'll do reruns, so you haven't lost MOF for good. You also have started playing very recently, so you literally didn't have the time to save up for this rerun.

i cannot imagine that tariffs are at play here, simply because this is not a physical good, but what do i know. it also could be that They™ are shafting the north american players with the expectation that if they set the price point really high, it'll still sell.

trust me, after doing this conversion I AM wondering if playing on EU is the way to go here :P  but i'd be starting again from scratch, which isn't the hugest deal since I'm just under a month in, but who knows if I'd get lucky with abysswalker again (/clutches pearlbabe to her chest).

then again, it hurts nothing to log into an EU server and check your shop and then run a calculator on it :P  i wonder how PayPal deals with that kind of thing.
