Story / Lore - or Popcorn Du Jour - ChicletPrime - 05-01-2025 ....she got blasted by something nebulous, got her new heart+1 (was that an injury that happened on the field? or a deliberate medical experiment while she was in the hospital for more mundane wound care? magic 8 ball is uncertain but it starts off like it just sort of happened to you (shards of something got embedded) but after the Zayne conversion over Grandma's box... hang on, I should strip this out and move this somewhere else) This is kind of the good stuff. I'll be honest, the writing isn't THAT good in this game, but its leaps, bounds and several more bounds beyond what I was expecting so five gold stars to Infold for exceeding my (possibly too low?) expectations. The implication, or at least the implication that I got, at the start was that you were injured during the arrival of the Wanderers, that shards of something got embedded into your heart (which, go us for surviving damage to the left ventrical long enough for somebody with a high tech bandage to show up) and now you're just on followup care, and Zayne is unimpressed by your life choices. Now, after The Bomb Event Centered On Your House, Grandma may or may not have been involved in unethical medical research, Zayne may or may not have been involved at the time but possibly was pulled into it to BE your medical advisor (timelines and relative ages of everybody involved are hazy) -- holy shit, it just occured to me, did Zayne specifically get his doctorate in a cardiac field BECAUSE of you??? - and maybe They™ grabbed you off the streets at the time of the original injury and decided you were a perfect candidate for said unethical research? Not much is clear at this point, its all super hazy, but there's just enough going on in the main story and in some of the side pieces I've got access to to wonder if I should be grilling Zayne with a truth serum in his sleep. MC is out and about and gets into a kerfuffle, something happens, she now has a heart+1 which is giving her Protocore Syndrome among other things. Grandma was possibly involved in unethical medical research, then her house gets blown up with her and Caleb inside. Zayne's job is specifically to treat protocore syndrome affecting people's hearts, which is quite the coincidence considering he's our childhood friend. And what grandma will say to him about taking care of us. Important to note: MC's memories of her childhood are riddled with holes. Before the chronorift catastrophe it's pretty much a question mark for her. But what's going on with her heart? When did it happen, and who's involved? All good questions. I wasn't expecting anything in terms of writing either, but I soon found myself intrigued by the scattered nature of the info that is given to us. You get it with the main story chapters, the anecdotes for each companion, all the 4 and 5 star cards, the audio files (tender moments, secret times), the in-game encyclopedia, side missions (abyssal chaos) that you'll unlock in a bit, world underneath (which is a series of texts similar to anecdotes which go into the worldbuilding and important events; you'll see it unlocked in the bottom left side of the main chapters page). And you start making theories based on obscure texts that are visible in some backgrounds, putting the events in order, catching references (some literary, some belonging to chinese culture). It gets fun. It's not written well per se, but if they don't get lost in the maze they're creating, it's extremely admirable that they're putting all this effort into what should be a simple otome mobile game. Someone reading this - or maybe even you - might want to throw me out of the window for saying this, but: I'm approaching this game's lore the same way I did Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Which is to say, I'm like this ![]() I also find that the writing gets better as time goes on, possibly because the staff realized that they were actually cooking with this plot and decided to get serious lol RE: Story / Lore - or Popcorn Du Jour - ChicletPrime - 05-01-2025 And what grandma will say to him about taking care of us. Oh, yes! I hadn't forgotten that part but in my rush to expound, I didn't mention it. That whole sequence was really, really good! Something to the tune of "...helping her will also help yourself" which, I guess it makes sense to you two, but c'mon Grandma, expand on the topic for the edification of the flies on the wall watching this in flashback. I should go read/watch that again, once I figure out which chapter it's hiding in. Zayne is having problems with his mutation, which nobody else seems to be struggling with. I am VERY looking forward to hearing more about what's going on there. So hang on - we have NO memories before age 14? AT ALL?? How did I miss that? I knew we had gaps, but not a complete wipe. If you happen to know the actual symptoms of Protocore Syndome off the top of your head, please advise the class (if not, I'll just look it up or find the Zayne pieces that talk about it at the beginning). I REALLY should have grabbed my notebook and taken down the major information along the way, but man, I got in a rush really fast. and YES, very Souls-like in the scattered clues, even with a Main Story to follow. Gotta inspect the card backgrounds? really? that's fantastic! I am so in. Yes lmao please elaborate for the sake of the flies on the wall Zayne is definitely struggling with his evol, which is something no one else seems to. Before age 7, that's how old MC was when the catastrophe happened 14 years ago, and everything before that is "???" in her head. MC's age is a little inconsistent, it oscillates between 21-22 and 25 based on the LI. Protocore Syndrome: incurable disease brought by long exposure to protocores (which is to say, wanderers). There are different types of protocore syndromes (type A, E, Y), but the gist of it, and what we know from MC, is that it makes the heart act up. It can weaken it to the point of causing death. It can also do other very interesting things that I'm leaving on the side until you reach that info on your own in the story, unless you want world building spoilers. Months and months ago some fans started reading some strings of text in the background of the side missions in Abyssal Chaos (you'll unlock it later), and pretty much deduced some plot points about the antagonists of the story. The writing might be basic, but they do choose their words carefully. RE: Story / Lore - or Popcorn Du Jour - ChicletPrime - 05-02-2025 All I've got for main antagonists in this story is:
RE: Story / Lore - or Popcorn Du Jour - Coldsaturn - 05-02-2025 Don't forget to check the Spacepedia (tap to see your profile, from the buttons on the bottom of the page, go to the second one that looks like a screen monitor) if you think you're forgetting something :> But yeah, it was something from Ever. RE: Story / Lore - or Popcorn Du Jour - ChicletPrime - 05-02-2025 I forget things ALWAYS. i think my brain hard drive is at capacity and new stuff just enters temporary RAM and flushes often. which is why i often go old school and write things down in a notebook - something about seeing it on paper and taking the time to form the letters makes it stick better AND i then have a handy reference for later that I can flip through in a heartbeat. see other thread PROBLEM - if i end up reinstalling and losing my game, I will probably go that route from the (new) start and then i will feel a little better about it. right now i bombed through seven chapters like a greedy maw and some of the earlier details are already hazy. how fast did YOU find yourself getting into? was it reluctant? did you drag your heels or did you just throw yourself in the well in the first ten minutes? RE: Story / Lore - or Popcorn Du Jour - Coldsaturn - 05-02-2025 Speaking of your problem with the emulator, I hope we can solve it without you starting from 0 again. It really shouldn't be a problem uninstalling and reinstalling the game, exactly because your account isn't tied to that. During major updates we're also advised to uninstall and reinstall the game if we're having issues with the available space. I discovered lads thanks to a few funny videos on youtube of vtubers playing it for the first time and promptly losing their shit, so I was already curious, but those videos only covered the spicy parts and very little of the rest. So when I decided to download the game and tried it out, I immediately went "Oh wait, there's so much more stuff, this is serious" By the end of the first week I was already watching theory and analysis videos on youtube, without mentioning all the fanvids. This meant that I was constantly being exposed to the main events, storylines, and dialogues again and again, which helped a lot with remembering them and creating a proper mind map of what's going on. I actually have the intention of replaying the main storyline again so I can go through it with a more careful eye for hints and foreshadowing. |
